Phenotypic and Genotypic Heterogeneity among
Cultivable Pathogen-Related Oral Spirochetes and Treponema
vincentii
Department of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dentistry, Oregon
Health Sciences University, Portland, Oregon, 97201-3097
Volume 37, no. 11, p. 3676-3680, 1999. Synthetic medium OMIZ-P4
was incorrectly described as containing fructose instead of fucose, and
glucuronic acid was incorrectly described as being in OMIZ-P4 medium as
well as in OMIZ-W1 medium (C. Wyss, J. Clin. Microbiol.
30:2225-2229, 1992). These errors did not contribute to
outcomes described in our article because pathogen-related oral
spirochete (PROS) isolates from Dr. Wyss grew well in our version of
OMIZ-P4 medium. Furthermore, we used our modified OMIZ-P4 medium to
isolate additional and distinct PROS specimens, and we used modified
OMIZ-P4 medium to grow several other Treponema species (G. Riviere et al., unpublished data).
