A comparison of the use of three commercially available enzyme-linked
immunosorbent assay-based kits and PCR amplification of rRNA genes to
detect and differentiate Entamoeba histolytica from E. dispar was carried
out. Only the Techlab kit did not cross-react with E. dispar antigens, but
it was 100 times less sensitive than PCR in detection of and
differentiation between the two types of Entamoeba.
