The genotypic diversity of Brazilian Cryptococcus neoformans strains was analyzed. The majority of the samples were {alpha}A (65%), followed by {alpha}B (17.5%), {alpha}D (9%), {alpha}AaD hybrids (5%), and {alpha}C (3.5%). A considerable genotypic diversity occurred within C. neoformans var. grubii, and a new amplified fragment length polymorphism genotype, 1B, was recognized.
