Abstract

Variable-Number Tandem-Repeats (VNTRs) may evolve so rapidly that multiple profiles emerge during an outbreak. 190 isolates from eight Salmonella Typhimurium outbreaks and 15 isolates from seven patients were analyzed by PFGE and VNTR-typing. Small changes in loci were noted, otherwise VNTR profiles were stable during the course of the outbreaks.
