Wawer et al., Lancet 345:131–132, 1995) found the rate of diagnosis of Trichomonas vaginalis infection obtained with self-collected vaginal samples to be comparable to the rate obtained with vaginal samples collected by health workers from prenatal clinics in African settings, we acknowledge that Schwebke et al. were the first to report comparability between the two techniques in a controlled study (J. R. Schwebke, S. C. Morgan, and G. B. Pinson, J. Clin. Microbiol. 35:1618–1619, 1997).
