RETRACTION

We hereby retract the manuscript posted on JCM Accepts on 14 February 2018 as 10.1128/JCM.01864-17. A couple of weeks after our letter was published, it came to our attention that the old ISCA LFD-Aspergillus assay (not available anymore) was newly formatted. The reason that our paper is being retracted is only that we did not state clearly that a prototype device was used in our work, which means that neither methodological nor any ethical issues were causes for such retraction. Even though we observed a poor sensitivity with the “prototype” ISCA LFD-Aspergillus lateral flow device, purchased from OLM Diagnostics, our results cannot be generalized to the newly formatted version of the test. Indeed, further multicenter validation studies are required to demonstrate the actual performance of this diagnostic test.

EDITOR IN CHIEF’S NOTE

This letter was accepted for publication by Journal of Clinical Microbiology and appeared on the journal website with the “JCM Accepts” posts. The authors have retracted the letter following my request to do so. I asked that the article be retracted because I learned that the study was done using a non-CE marked prototype device, not the currently-available CE-marked device. The specific version of the device used was not included in the letter. I concluded that it was not possible to accurately assess the significance of the letter during the review and editorial processes and that, if it had been possible, this letter would not have met the journal standards for significance.—Alexander J. McAdam, Editor in Chief, Journal of Clinical Microbiology
